The V4 Biochar Platform event aims to connect all partial researchers of biochar in two basic sections - biochar for agriculture and biochar for industry. Specific objectives of the event:
- Speed up the journey of Biochar into soil.
- Set up a comprehensive approach to address scientific issues in biochar by connecting teams across the EU.
- Unification of scientific potential and better competitiveness leading to more valuable outputs of basic and applied research
- Connecting scientific workplaces and other entities through regular seminars.
- Connecting researchers with foreign partners by organizing international conferences and workshops.
- Involvement in the international platform International Biochar Initiative (IBI)
- Facilitating the preparation of joint European projects in the form of a pre-established consortium within the platform
- Establishment of communication media for public relations.
- Creation of a "biochar marketplace" promoting products, ideas and technologies.
The NUTRIMAN presentation is about the new EU regulations for CMC14 pyrolysis material biochar cases and expected market impacts beyond 2022.
The NUTRIMAN presentation will also highlight the www.nutriman.net Farmer Platform connection opportunities for those biochar RTD results that are matured enough and ready for practice beyond successfully completed TRL6 status. The biochar research challenge and gaps will also be highlighted:
- The EU biochar research RTD programs are rather basic research oriented and publication driven. Over 5000 biochar scientific publications made past decade in low TRL area but the matured high TRL and market competitive technology and commercial product development driven biochar actions are almost completely missing in the EU.
- The gap between biochar theory <TRL6 and biochar practice >TRL7 is big, and often the low TRL research results are not relevant to the economical & market competitive industrial conditions/reality.
- Only very few % of the EU research RTD programs reaching user driven and market competitive maturity at high >TRL7 TRL9.
- NUTRIMAN experience is same as EU DG Research “Key findings H2020 interim evaluation” 2017, ISBN 978-92-79-69106-5:
- “There remains an innovation gap”. “EU lags behind in breakthrough, market-creating innovation” and “more could be done to support the demand for innovative solutions and user-driven innovation“. “Need to ensure appropriate balance of technology readiness levels”.
