On September 17, 2021 the 3R-BioPhosphate Ltd. Participated on the V4 Biochar Platform international conference. Biochar specific presentation made about the new EU regulations for CMC14 pyrolysis material biochar cases and expected market impacts beyond 2022. The EU and MS legal aspects of the biochar technologies and products highlighted, incl. the important need of mandatory MS Authority permits, EU permits beyond July 16, 2022 and REACH regulation application for chemically modified substance for biochar cases. It has been highlighted that voluntarily biochar certifications does not have valid legal effects in the EU e.g. does not replacing the mandatory EU/MS Authority permits. The biochar market challenges, gaps and beyond 2022 opportunities highlighted. It is concluded that despite large EU RTD funding availability, very few biochar development results ended with “ready for practice” status and the incomplete biochar RTD actions are mostly publication driven only. It is concluded that Farmers cannot use & apply scientific publications and low TRL lab data in practice, therefore wherever it is possible rapid research upgrades needed.
